The Gaming Giant Brings Onboard Popular Battle Royale Producer to Rescue Troubled Hero Shooter Ambitious Title

2K Games has appointed a seasoned producer from Respawn Entertainment to direct the studio crew at 31st Union, which is currently developing the forthcoming third-person action-packed title known as Project Ethos.

Leadership Change Comes After Mixed Response

Brinkman assumes the role of studio head at 31st Union following the dismissal of former leader Michael Condrey, who was removed from his post due to Project Ethos' disappointing initial reveal last fall.

Recently, the company's top executive a key figure informed staff about this organizational change through an internal memo, which stressed that early feedback sessions had shown the need for a clearer game identity.

The president noted that the developers is now reimagining Project Ethos with a refreshed vision, aiming to better meet gamer demands.

A Pattern of Key Acquisitions

The news follows a comparable step taken by the publisher in the summer, when they brought on an industry veteran from Blizzard to work on the beloved franchise studio Cloud Chamber.

Here is the entire content from the president's communication:

Dear Team—

I understand you all just completed your meeting - I hope you’re as thrilled as I am with the positive developments. Last time I shared you all a update, I mentioned the following: “I am confident in this crew. You all are some of the most motivated and creative designers we have had the opportunity to collaborate with - and we’re looking forward for that relationship to persist.”

Given your hard work and adaptability, particularly over the last year, you repeatedly show that.

The player input from last autumn’s the game testing phase was enlightening. It validated the potential of a action-packed game but told us we still had improvements to make. It highlighted the need for a sharper identity.

It has been motivating to see how far you’ve come. You took the criticism to heart and overhauled the title with a revitalized direction - one that’s ready to fulfill its promise to our audience.

Our confidence in this project increases every day. To advance the outstanding advancement you’ve made, I’m excited to announce the new hire as the new Studio Head of 31st Union. After a period of discussions, Ben starts with us on Monday, October 20.

His guidance and expertise in the competitive gaming field is considerable, having devoted the past decade and a half producing and leading some of the most well-known series in the industry, for example Call of Duty: Black Ops, and more recently, Apex Legends.

Let’s together in receiving him soon. We are all looking forward to continue seeing the development of Project ETHOS in the time to follow.

The President

Brinkman presently serves in the role of senior developer and production lead at the renowned studio for Apex Legends. He earlier worked at major gaming companies in various development positions on the Call of Duty series, and, earlier in his career, had stints at other industry leaders.

Title Information and Vision

The upcoming game was unveiled in last year together with a public demo. Initially, the developers described the game as a "free-to-play, 3rd-person roguelike hero shooter and an innovative evolution on the category."

"Create your ideal gameplay session—or face defeat—in this engaging over-the-shoulder adventure! Build your hero in live gameplay to suit your personal playstyle," the game's pitch states. "Take on the opponents with fresh skills, stakes, and obstacles that evolve every round. Will you leave securely with your hard-earned loot? Alternatively aim high, put it on the line, and hope your team can earn top ranking? The choice is yours."

The game has not yet received an official launch window or platforms, but players can anticipate further news as production advances.
